Daniel Theiler ist ein deutsch-türkischer bildender Künstler, Filmemacher und Architekt. Seine medienübergreifende Praxis umfasst Installation, Video, Skulptur, Malerei und Performance. Im Zentrum seiner Arbeit steht die Entwicklung eigenständiger Wirklichkeiten mit eigener räumlicher Logik und eigener Bildsprache. Vertraute Elemente werden zu neuen Zusammenhängen verdichtet, die auf Realität verweisen, ohne sie abzubilden. Als offene Systeme angelegt, entwickeln sich ihre Regeln kontinuierlich weiter. Seine Arbeiten bewegen sich zwischen spielerischer Leichtigkeit und präziser Konstruktion sowie zwischen utopischen Entwürfen und gelebter Realität.
Theilers Arbeiten wurden international in Museen, Kunstinstitutionen und auf Filmfestivals präsentiert, darunter die GfZK – Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig, das Museum Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt, die Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin im Louvre Museum (Paris) und Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin) sowie die Internationalen Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, das Aesthetica Short Film Festival in York und das Sapporo International Short Film Festival. Seine Arbeiten befinden sich in öffentlichen Sammlungen, darunter die Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, die Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden und die Deutsche Kinemathek. Er lebt und arbeitet in Berlin.
Daniel Theiler is a German-Turkish visual artist, filmmaker, and architect. His interdisciplinary practice spans installation, video, sculpture, painting, and performance. At the core of his work is the development of autonomous realities with their own spatial logic and visual language. Familiar elements are condensed into new constellations that reference reality without representing it. Conceived as open systems, their rules continuously evolve and expand. His works navigate the tension between playful lightness and precise construction, as well as between utopian visions and lived reality.
Theiler’s work has been presented internationally at museums, art institutions, and film festivals, including GfZK – Gallery for Contemporary Art Leipzig, the Museum Angewandte Kunst Frankfurt, the Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin at Louvre Museum (Paris) and Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin), as well as the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, the Aesthetica Short Film Festival in York, and the Sapporo International Short Film Festival. His works are held in public collections, including the Contemporary Art Collection of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD), and the Deutsche Kinemathek. He lives and works in Berlin.
