Daniel Theiler ist ein deutsch-türkischer bildender Künstler, Filmemacher und Architekt. Er war Meisterschüler bei Nina Fischer in Kunst und Medien an der UdK Berlin. Zuvor absolvierte er einen Master of Fine Arts (Public Art and New Artistic Strategies) bei Danica Dakić an der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar sowie ein Studium an der School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Architektur studierte er an der TU Berlin, der ETH Zürich und der University of Strathclyde Glasgow und schloss als Diplom-Ingenieur ab. Theilers konzeptionelle und ortsspezifische Arbeiten untersuchen Räume und ihre Einbettung in historische und kulturelle Kontexte mit analogen und digitalen Medien in den Bereichen Installation, Video und Malerei. Er spielt auf humorvolle Weise mit Konventionen, indem er räumliche, architektonische und soziale Formationen neu organisiert. Theiler beschäftigt sich mit Status, Raum und Identität. Das Verhältnis von Utopie und sozialer Realität ist dabei ein wiederkehrendes Thema. Theilers preisgekrönte Arbeiten wurden international gezeigt und sind u.a. Teil der Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, der Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden und der Deutschen Kinemathek. Er lebt und arbeitet in Berlin.
Daniel Theiler is a German-Turkish visual artist, filmmaker, and architect. He graduated as Meisterschüler of Nina Fischer in Art and Media at UdK Berlin. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Public Art and New Artistic Strategies from Bauhaus University Weimar (with Danica Dakić) and also studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He completed his architecture studies at TU Berlin, ETH Zurich, and the University of Strathclyde Glasgow , earning a Diploma in Architecture (Dipl.-Ing.). Theiler’s conceptual and site-specific works examine spaces and their embeddedness in historic and cultural contexts with analog and digital media in the fields of installation, video, and painting. He plays with conventions in a humorous way by reorganizing spatial, architectural, and social formations. Theiler deals with status, space and identity. The relationship between utopia and social reality is a recurring theme. Theiler’s award-winning works have been shown internationally and are part of public collections including the collection of contemporary art of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Dresden State Art Collections, and the Deutsche Kinemathek, among others. He lives and works in Berlin.
