Hintergrund der Arbeit ist die Dopplung des Portals IV des historischen Berliner Schlosses, die durch seine wiederholte Rekonstruktion erzeugt wurde: Einmal durch die Rekonstruktion als Spolie für den Eingangsbereich des Staats- ratsgebäudes der DDR und aktuell als Teil des rekonstruierten Berliner Schlosses. Das die von einigen geforderte Versetzung des Portal IV aus dem Staatsratsgebäude in die Schlossrekonstruktion nicht erfolgte, ist dem Denkmalstatus des Staatsratsgebäudes zu verdanken. Aus diesem Grund gibt es von der Zeit entkoppelt betrachtet, das Portal IV nun gleich drei Mal:
Als zerstörtes Original und in Form der beiden Rekonstruktionen.

The work is set against the backdrop of the duplication of the Portal IV of the historic Berlin Palace, which is a result of its repeated reconstruction: Once through the reconstruction as a spoil for the entrance of the State Council building (Staatsratsgebäude) of the GDR and currently as part of the reconstructed Berlin Palace. For this reason, the Portal IV now exists three times if viewed independently of time: As a destroyed original and in the form of the two reconstructions.
