Kauf Dir Deinen Applaus!
Die Redewendung “Alles für den Applaus” steht symptomatisch für unsere Zeit. Der Applaus entfaltet bis heute eine tiefgehende Symbolik – er ist Ausdruck des Gefallens einer Darbietung, erfüllt die tiefe Sehnsucht des Menschen nach Anerkennung und stiftet Gemeinschaft. Als Bindeglied zwischen Anerkennung, Status und Geld haben sich seine Form, Art und der Rahmen in dem er sich zeigt über die Zeit gewandelt. Wir untersuchen den Applaus und seine digitalen Surrogate und bringen ihn durch die Schaffung einer Mensch-Applaus-Maschine, die die Schnittstelle zwischen Realität und AR auslotet, in eine künstlerische Form. Der Raum On Demand, der seinen Standort auf dem Gelände der Alte Münze hat ist ein idealer Raum um sich kritisch und reflektierend mit dem monetarisierten Applaus auseinanderzusetzen.
Die Arbeit Paying Hands untersucht die Beziehung zwischen Publikum und Künstler:innen und beleuchtet das Phänomen des Applauses. Dafür wird der Applaus in den virtuellen Raum verschoben und der Spieß umgedreht: Nicht die Künstler:innen werden beklatscht, sondern das Publikum selbst erntet den Applaus in Form von Kurzvideos. Die Besucher:innen können ihren Applaus im „Payinghands.com“-Onlineshop aus einem Pool verschiedener Applausarten unterschiedlicher Charaktere auswählen und gegen Bezahlung erwerben. Die Kurzvideos sind mit NFTs abgesichert. Ein physischer Token im Raum on Demand verweist darauf. The phrase „everything for the applause“ is symptomatic of our time. Applause still has a profound symbolism today – it expresses the appreciation of a performance, fulfils individuals‘ longing for recognition and creates community. Linking between recognition, status and money, its form, nature, and the context in which it is occurs have changed over time. payinghands explores applause and its digital surrogates, turning it into an artistic form through the creation of an applause machine at the the intersection between reality and AR. The space On Demand, located at Alte Münze Berlin, is an ideal space for critically engaging with monetised applause.
The work payinghands investigates the relationship between audience and artists and sheds light on the phenomenon of applause. For this purpose, applause is shifted into the virtual space and the tables are turned: it is not the artists who are applauded, but the audience receives the applause in form of short videos. The visitors can buy their applause from a pool of different applause types, rendered by different characters in the „payinghands.com“ online store. The premium flagship video is secured with an NFT. A physical token in the space on demand refers to it. The webshop will launch on the opening day.
