Die Arbeit Gurkenparadies erforscht den Kontrast zwischen Stadt und Peripherie: Im Gegensatz zum kuratierten Stadtraum ist die Peripherie unreguliert und außerhalb der Norm. Sie stellt einen Möglichkeitenraum für eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Nutzungen dar. Neben Menschen, die in die Peripherie gedrängt werden, wenden sich ihr auch diejenigen zu, die der Kernstadt den Rücken kehren und sich bewusst für ein Leben am äußeren Rand entscheiden. Die Peripherie zieht Menschen mit dem Bild eines selbstbestimmten Lebens an. Es ist ein Paradies für Aussteiger und Selbstständige. Die Installation Gurkenparadies verwendet das Bild der Gurke, das durch die EU-Gurkenverordnung zu einem Symbol für Überregulierung geworden ist. Ironischerweise wurde die EU-Gurkenverordnung vor einigen Jahren abgeschafft, aber die Lebensmittelindustrie folgt ihr immer noch. In der Arbeit wird die Stadt als regulierte, emblematische Standardgurke angesehen. Die Peripherie stellt eine krumme, aber freie Gurke außerhalb der Norm dar. Sie steht für Selbstkultivierung und Eigeninitiative sowie für Laissez-faire und Zersiedelung.

The work Gurkenparadies explores the contrast between the city and the periphery: in contrast to the curated urban space, the periphery is more unregulated and out of the norm. It represents a space of possibility (Möglichkeitenraum) for a variety of different uses. In addition to people who are pushed to the outskirts, there are also those who turn their backs on the core city and deliberately choose a life in the outer edge. The periphery attracts people with the image of a self-determined life. It is a paradise for dropouts and the self-sufficient. The installation Gurkenparadies uses the picture of the cucumber, which, as a result of the EU cucumber regulation, has become a symbol of over-regulation. Ironically, the EU cucumber regulation has been abolished some years ago, but the food industry still follows it. In the work, the city is regarded as a regulated, standard emblematic cucumber. However, the periphery represents a crooked but free cucumber outside the norm. It stands for self-cultivation and personal initiative, as well as for laissez-faire and urban sprawl.
